Facebook Manage Pages Changes
Facebook have made yet another change in how Business Pages are edited. You still have to through the same few screens in order to reach the business page. Once you have logged onto the account click on manage pages and then select the appropriate page and once you have reached that page click on edit page under the Avatar picture and this will then lead you to the new Facebook screen.
The layout of the pages have been changed to the following order:-
- Manage Permissions
- Basic Information
- Profile Picture
- Marketing
- Manage Admins
- Applications
- Mobile
- Insights
- Page Help
The Facebook changes are much more functional and easy to navigate around as opposed to the old layout but Im sure some people who are used to the older setup will disagree.
Manage Page Permissions
The Permissions setup for Facebook is now on one tab and from within here you have the following information displayed.
Page Visibility – If you tick the box only the admin will be able to see the page and no one else.
Country Restriction – If you want certain countries not to be able to see the page then you simply start typing in the name of a country and Facebook will auto populate this country and click enter to finish adding the country name. You can add as many countries as you wish. This function may be useful if you only want to run a specific Facebook campaign in a certain country and you know where most of your fans are coming from geographic wise.
Age Restrictions – If you have services that are aimed at people older than 13, the legal age for someone to have a Facebook account is 13. Select the drop down and select the appropriate age group. On Facebook as well there is a drop down option here for Alcohol related, be aware when selecting this that in Facebook world it is illegal to offer prizes related to Alcohol, tobacco or Firearms as part of a prize giveaway and all giveaways must be run through an application and approved by Facebook.
Wall Tab Shows – From here you set the default setting for which posts should be shown on the Wall – only the posts from the page (the posts of the admins) or the posts from page and the posts from the page's fans (the people that liked the page). For detailed posting permissions see below.
Wall Spam Filter – This is self explanatory, This can be either visible to admins or hidden. If its visible to admins then when you are on that specific page there are options at the top to show spam if you have flagged any posts.
Default Landing Tab – If you have customized tabs or information on other tabs that you wish to view fans to view instad of your wall then change the default landing tab to whichever tab you wish. If you want to offer your fans or future fans a more personalized experience then it is better to point them towards a landing tab other than your wall.
Posting Ability – If you would like to give users the ability to post pictures, videos or posts on your wall tick the appropriate boxes but if you wish to disable this un tick these boxes and this will prevent users from posting the above options. The posting on the page is allowed only for users that Liked the page.
Delete Page – If you want to delete your Facebook Page click on the Delete Page and this will allow you to delete the Facebook page. Once you do there is no going back! Be careful.
Basic Information
The Facebook Basic Information page is where all the information can be edited related to hours of a business, telephone, address, services, specialities and more.
You can edit the opening hours here, the address etc and when you click on save changes then the updated information is stored normally on the Info tab which is next to the Wall. This page has been specifically used as an example for information related to a restaurant bar so pages will vary depending on your business.
Profile Picture
Here you can change the profile picture for your page. The maximum size of picture for your Facebook Page for Business is 200 x 600 pixels. This is the maximum. Keep to this guideline.
If you want to select a different picture here there are 2 options Choose a file to upload or take a picture. If you want to choose a file then you simply select a file from your hard drive and upload it here.
Obviously this picture is pretty big so you need to edit the thumbnail to make sure it does not look out of sync when it is viewable on 1 line as opposed to full size, i.e the avatar.
Click on edit thumbnail and the following is displayed.
Use the mouse to drag the Thumbnail until you achieve the correct look for your Thumbnail.
Press Save and your thumbnail is now saved.
If you wish to remove your picture completely under edit thumbnail click on remove your picture. The picture will then be removed once you have gone through the appropriate steps.
Marketing
Now on this specific area on Facebook there are 5 options:-
- Advertise on facebook – This is Facebook own version of adsense where you can target geographic s and also select how much you want to spend on your Facebook advertising and who you want to target.
- Get a Badge – There are 4 types of badges, Profile, Like, Photo & Page Badges. You simply select which type of badge you wish to display on your website and Facebook automatically generates the code and you have to insert the code into your website. When people click on this it will lead them directly to that Profile, Like, Photo or Page.
- Add a Like box to your website – The like box is a plugin that allows Facebook Page Owners to attract likes from within their own websites. It gives you some basic stats as well. How many users already like this page, and also which of their friends like it. It also allows to read and scroll through recent posts.
- Send an update – This enables you to send an update to every fan on your page in facebooks Internal mailing system. You can also target this update. If you want to for example to just email this to one country or just target the males within group between a specific age then you can. Its very useful feature for party reminders etc.
- See All Updates – You can revisit here the updates that you have sent out in relation to this specific page. If you have sent out an invite then you will be able to find the link to the update here.
Manage Admins
You can add or remove admins here, its very straightforward.
You can add another admin user from the people that like the page. To add an admin simply start typing in a name and the system will automatically start to populate the name and press enter to select it.
If you want to delete and admin select delete next to that persons name and they will be removed. Press Save to save the changes.
Applications
Under applications all the Facebook applications are loaded here and you can change the settings of the different application and hide or show the tabs of the applications (hiding the tab does not remove the application). You can add more applications each with a tab, but it is important to know that Facebook allows 6 tabs to be visible (doesnt matter how long actually they are) and the rest will get hidden under the “»” sign (the admins pf the page will see “+” instead). This is important because by adding applications you may push some tab that is important for your page beyoud the 6th. To reorder the tabs play with the hide/show tab option – doing it in a different order will reorder the tabs.To remove an application click on the “x” mark at the top right corner; you will be asked for confirmation.Below the applications there is a list of suggested applications to choose from.
Mobile
All the settings for Facebook mobile are available here including details for Iphone, Mobile web, SMS and mobile email
Insights
Facebook insights is where all your statistical information is held for your Facebook Business page.
It shows you the details for monthly average users, daily new likes and total likes.
